Slows rate of polish absorption As discussed above, the pads are slow to absorb products and therefore the paint benefits from a longer working time. The same is true of liquid waxes and sealants.
Improves operator control CCS pockets gradually release polish as needed by the operator. Since these areas are not absorbing polish, they serve as little reservoirs until the excess polish is needed.
Prevents pad skipping CCS pockets reduce surface tension allowing the operator to run pad flat on a working surface. Basically, the CCS pockets break up the smooth surface of the foam to eliminate the sticking and skipping that occurs when two perfectly flat surfaces meet.

Orange Light Cutting Pad-This firm, high density foam is ideal for scratch and defect removal. The orange foam offers the correction of a typical compounding pad whilst at the same time allowing the polishing ability of light cut foam pad. When used with heavier compounds it will remove moderate swirls and scratches with little or no haze. It s an all around pad that will work on most light to moderate imperfections. Green Heavy Polishing Pad - This pad is is used by Mercedes Benz at OEM level and is designed to be used with a random orbital polisher (like the Porter Cable) It produces less spot heating and has a unique compression/load/deflection ratio which means it conforms quickly to contours. It is a high strength foam with 60 pores per sq. inch yet is softer and more forgiving than our regular foams which have 80 pores per sq. inch. (3.5 inches wide)

The Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher is a fantastic tool for the DIY Detailer. If it has any weakness right out of the box, it would be the backing plate. The stock Porter Cable backing plate has a tough outer edge that can cause damage to the paint surface should the come into contact. It is also quite stiff and inflexible.

The GP Backing Plate is considerably more flexible than the standard Porter Cable backing plate, making it much more effective especially on curved surfaces. It is also made of a lighter plastic material that lessens the possibility of accidental damage from paint contact. This is a very good initial modification to the PC as it makes it safer to operate as well as more effective.
